After this happened, did you try going back on again to see if the save file was still there? It might of been just a freak-glitch. They are common with Gamecube games.

Try using a lower capacity memory card. Using 1019 cards on Wiis often cause saves to get corrupted, and on another forum I go on, several people who used 1019 cards even caused their Wii to overheat....

Wait, did you play on the GameCube/Wii first, then changed to a different console? That usually causes Save Data Corruption.
